How does one go about insuring your self on a car for a day or two if you're making a private purchase & want to drive the car home? My insurance company has told me that they can't insure me on the car I'm looking at as it's already insured, however as soon as I purchase the car and drive it home my TPO cover for driving a car with the owners permission is invalid. So how do I get around this? Just out right lie to the insurance company and claim that it's not insured currently. This seems like a no-win situation to me.

Who is your insurance company? Sounds like they're talking rubbish. Agree a time with the current owner to transfer ownership. Then phone your insurer to start insurance from that time.

Or let a friend buy it - and drive it home on your third party insurance.

I'm with Admiral right now. I'm probably going to buy the car but not certain so I want a bit more flexibility than a simple hand over date & time.

well, if you cant sort it out theres a company called dayinsure who can insure you on pretty much anything for about £20 a day, as long as your over 20 :chin:

tis on the internet, give it a google
