i did a service on my 1.2 other day replaced the plugs oil and filter. and i still get 100-105 miles to 20quid which is 26ish mpg on a 1.2 which is shocking! i dont race or rag the tits off it so i cant put it down to driving with a glued right foot. what do you think it could be?

should i try some red-ex??

also does a remap improve the mpg? i was told it does by some and not by others??

Its probably due to that bulky kit causing drag. LOL.

On a serious note, have you replaced the fuel filter and air filter? Are your tyres pumped up to the correct pressures? Going from 14" wheels to a bigger size will effect fuel consumption, but even that wont give you an additional 10MPG if corrected.

Have you disconnected the battery recently? ECU resets will cause the car to burn more fuel for the first few hundred miles. Are you basing your MPG figures on Town driving, Motorway driving or a bit of both?

Redex wont do it any harm, worth a try. However i think forte engine treatment is better.

i had a drain on battery and it some times drained it but the clock would only reset once i tried to start it so i doubt its been reset. i do a bit of bother motorway and town. most of it is out of traffic hours too. statistically i should be gettin 140-150 ish to 20quid. but it just seems asif i have but my fuel tank lol.

i have soem work going on inside the car so the boot build is out and interia stripped bar the drivers seat so ill see if the lighter weight gives me any better reading?

also if i reset my ecu would this give any benefits you think?

An ECU reset usually will help, as it will relearn your driving style, obviously it'll burn more fuel to start with but once the ECU has learnt your driving style, you should notice your MPGs increase. However 26MPG is very bad for a 1.2. Maybe it could be a more sinister problem.

Air and fuel filter replacement is a MUST. Not sure if a 1.2 has a fuel filter but if it has replace it. The air filter if blocked or dirty, would cause bad MPG and overfueling.

"The whole point of a small Fiat is that you have a very small engine, powered by petrol, and you rev it and rev it and rev it until the valves come out and dance on the bonnet, and THEN you change gears" - James May

I get between 420 and 450 miles depending on how much motorway driving I do.

Could need a service.

yep def check air filter, i got 26mpg from my last tank in the Rat

Marea, why settle for less

If I can get 450 miles on a tank on my 1.8 Marea, you 1.2 boys should be getting at least that, if not more. Definitely worth investigating.

i have the air filter as a induction kit at the moment. also i went to the parts shop and asked for a fuel filter and they gave one so im presumign ti does have one i havent fitted that yet havent hadmuch time.

air filter and exhaust wouldnt make the mpg so bad would they?

My 1.2 was doin about 200 miles to a 20quid back in the day when i 1st got it. But it slowly went dwn to hover between 160-180. I put that dwn to the price of petrol n the way it is gettin drivin now. But when i changed the gearbox to a punto one it shot dwn to about 120-140. Im very lucky if it goes over 140. Iv jus took delivery of sum plugs so gona slam them on n see what happens. I suspect the punto box mite av sumin to do with it.

Rascal did u get a punto box in the end i cart remember?

no i had mine reconditioned.

when i get paid ill stick some redex in a full tank and see what i get to a full tank. ill give my filter a blast with a air line and fit fuel filter soo whats goin on.

I got avg of 33mpg last fill up from my 1.6. Pretty pleased considering I was ragging it up a hell of a lot.

around town / rush hour driving I'm getting about 310-340 per tank. Or around 33-35mg

when i used to do motorway stuff i would get 400-435 per tank. Around 42-45mpg

1.2 troffeo

Its a lot of car to keep accelerating from rest (ie traffic). Much better maintaining a set speed (ie motorway)

My 2.0 Marea has gone down from nearly 33 to 29 MPG average recently, but that's still good for over 400 miles a tankfull.

carrol what type of driving is that?? i averaged 22.73 to this tank :( but this is all short trips ie less than 5 miles.

That's a varied mix of driving, (sometmies giving it wellie) covering all types of road. The longer journeys are 2-up, mostly lightly laden. I also do a short 4-mile run to 'base camp' at work about 3 times a week, (solo, unladen.)

I read that the average for early 2.0 litre Mareas was around 20-23 MPG before I bought it and so was quite chuffed when I found it did much better.

Mine has the advantage of being a latest, (08/2000-) VIS '150' Euro 3 version - which is supposed to have more low-down torque and better economy than both earliest 147 and 'mid' 155 versions. It's also low mileage and appears to have been well looked-after from new.

I'm running on modest 'comfort' 185/65x15 tyres at the moment, raising the gearing quite a bit from the grippy 195/50's I use in the summer, which probably helps as well.

also if tome times my car idles at 800 revs and some time 1500 revs and moves to bout 1600 and down to 1400 like its running rough what could this be?
