Hello all, please can anyone answer me a technical help regarding a Polish 652cc late air cooled 126 engine?

I've just bought this but didn't realise it had no distributor, it comes with electronic ignition and blanked off distributor hole.

Will I be able to fit a distributor with modification? Will there be a drive from the cam under the blanking plate?

If not, would I be able to use any spares from this engine on my 594cc engine?

Such as the barrels and pistons, head con rods, crank, cam, flywheel, clutch, tinware, alternator, etc? These spares are expensive, so it will have been worth buying! Or have I just bought an expensive paperweight :)

Many thanks for any replies

John

When first encountered these engines do take you by surprise. Tony Vitesse knows the setup and has a thread about his rebuild and currently the installation of one. You have invested well because if you reverse your thinking, you have a superb, powerful engine which is probably already suited to lead-free petrol. The camshaft is unique to that engine type and you're not going to get a distributor fitted. You would need the electrical gubbins to make it work. You can't swap pistons because they're bigger, but crankshaft, alternator starter, carb etc. Can be made to fit. You'll easily sell it on if you decide against it but better to try and get it going and hold as a complete spare.
