Not a new thing but something that was highlighted to me tonight again.

I'll set out a scenario

You have came to the end of your insurance term and decide to not renew cos a. your sort on cash and b. you've got some bits to fit.

You fit them and decide to try out the mods, you get stopped by the cops and honestly it's bye bye car, no ifs or buts regardless of how good yad yada yada it is, I think there is a 14 day period where if you can prove youhave valied insurance then you can get the car back BUT you will get 8 points and a fine anyways.

This is also the same if you don't have a licence for any reason.

This didn't happen to me I am just trying to illustrate it.

So if your pride and joy is so precious then don't risk it.

they dont crush your car, well rare id think, a mate who is 18, dont have a licence, dont have insurance, has tax and mot tho but when stopped gets a warning each time, and told to walk home.

they do crush them, but rarely i think, and after lots of warnings.
these are fairly new powers and with the computerisation of the system it will change.
personaly wouldnt be a mate of mine driving round risking my property and well being in a dangerous vehicle.
like any decent motorist i put mine off the road when its not legal

he buys cars for like 50-70 pounds with mot and tax and just drives them, then dumps when tax out cos police stop ya.

Due to these being new powers at the moment its mainly only certain officers that can do this - those in traffic departments or road crimes units etc or those who have recieved the training (more and more can do this noe!), and there are more factors involved rather than just gettin it crushed but yeah, great idea! Or an even better one - just sell their cars on make the force some money! Why should uninsured drivers be let off/keep their car. Its like leaving an alcoholic in a pub

When the tipo isn't insured it's parked in the back lane. I don't drive it anywhere. It gets started once a week and rolled forward/back a couple of feet to unbind the brakes. Pushing my luck or would the police understand that I'm not driving it?

not a problem at all, police are human beings(honest)
if you expained your situation thewy would be fine i bet.
its the people like a certain young forumers mate who the police are aiming for.
we can all be a couple of days out with the road tax or as happened to mrs dave forget to mot the car.ive done both and im sure you would get a severe ticking of for these but thats not who the police are aiming for

If it is on a public road or publically accessible place then technically it is supposed to be insured. If they get a complaint about it from anyone then they will have to do something about it regardless of whether or not they are understanding and reasonable.

As a counterpoint to the original subject there is still a lot of debate over whether or not the taking and crushing of cars is actually permissable under law. I know it is itself a new point of law but there are older articles of law that are being broken. So far they have only targeted individuals who are very unlikely to take the matter up in court and more importantly cannot afford to take the matter up in court.

i had been to buy my car i had been in it about 8 minutes and got stopped buy police obviously i didnt have insurance but i told the police i had just brought it and was on way to change my insurance from my old car but the ****s still took it off me luckily my insurance company insured me 1 hour before i got pulled so i got my car back with no probs but the moral of this message is .......... the police dont mess about an will take your car even if only had it 8 minutes

well you did but didnt have paperwork i assume

any forumers from liverpool?? drove along one of the main roads there and there is a big banner hanging on a fence with the name of an operation & a few cars that have been confiscated for no insurance with a caption that reads something like "these are the ones that were too nice to crush" iirc.

think it will be effective but they should maybe set out guidelines for people who are buying new cars (not necessarily brand new ones but new to them) so that they have chance to insure it properly but should have to prove the purchase. maybe.

I get 24 hour insurance (costs me about £5.50) when I go to buy a car even if I dont buy it...price of packet of cigs better than losing license & job etc
