General Please help!!!

I bought a brand new multipla in Mar 09....within the first year the brakes failed, dealer repaired it under warranty..for 12 months I had problems with gear change and it was in and out of dealership repeatedly only to be told there was nothing wrong with it! when it eventually ceased to move I was told by another garage it was the hydraulic system, foned the dealer to be told it wasnt covered on warranty! paid (750) needed new clutch too!! 2 weeks later problems- cracked alternater - not covered on warranty!.....a month later more problems, reluctantly took it to another fiat dealership to be told egr was knackered (£450) within 10 miles same problem....took it back told engine needed stripping and cleaning as it was full of carbon (£850)....drove away same problem took it back they kept it for a week they said that my fuel injection system is knackered I told them to stick it when I was quoted (£850)....while at the dealership my key broke, spare wasnt working and I was quoted £350 for a repalcement!! my radio had to be decoded as it wasnt on the system (£50)...LO and BEHOLD was out in it 2 days ago and my handbrake broke!!!!....I have written to the elusive head office numerous times - no joy!!!!!.....the above is only a small selection of faults !!!!

I would suggest trading standards ,if you have had those issues from day 1 then collect all the documentation and receipts from the repairs and present them ,you obviously have a dodgy car and by the sounds of it a dodgy dealer

I'd rant if it were me - but you do need to be less passionate if you want to achieve any redress.

The prices you've quoted seem on the high side, EGR valve is between £90 and £200 depending on type.
This makes labour charges seem very high, don't know the book time for an EGR swap but I'd be surprised if it's more than 1.5 hours.

After 3 years your options are limited, however it appears that the dealer has been unsympathetic and I would approach Fiat UK first, with trading standards as a last resort.
Martyh is right when he says contact trading standards but Fiat UK will be less sympathetic if they haven't had a clear opportunity to redress the issues.

Cheers for that......and yes after reading it it sounded more like a rant lol.......I have witten a 3 page letter yet again to Fiat UK and sent it special delivery, heres hoping!!
Rant was due to:-
power steering failure
horn broke
brake failure
hydraulic failure
rear wiper broke
seat belt holder broke
egr
radio broke
key broke
brakes replaced 4 times in 3 ys
hand brake failure
front wiper failure
suspension problem
petrol cap broke
electric seat adjustment faulty
front passenger seat belt faulty
cigarette lighter not working

the list is endless.......so yes it was a little rant :bang:

I would not blame the car alone for all your problems,in my humble opinion it sounds like you have had vastly over priced, very poor repairs carried out,which in turn has led to premature failure of component. For example when I repair brakes they stay repaired,only the pads need changing when required. Quality. Oem parts simply do not fail with the frequency yours have unless not done properly. Yes the car does have some weaknesses,but it sound like your mechanics have been taking the p***. Find a reliable,good mechanic and i am sure your luck will change.

Sadly i am not suprised, not all of these workshop technicians as they like to be called can be relied upon to do a proffesional job, Ive had some shockers done to me,by Renault mechanics,toyota werent that good,alfa have been surprisingly excellent but even they left a couple of bolts out of my undertray. My fiat has been great,although i do need to fettle with it from time to time but generally very reliable and cheap to fix, 52 reg jtd 102000miles

If you've had most of the repairs done by Fiat, I'd definitely pursue the Fiat UK route, some of the bills seem high and if you're not doing starship mileage, you've had a bad run - try the goodwill route as you've put a lot of money into Fiat.

fone call form Fiat uk..........They say it's dealer issue, dealer says its a fiat fault........decided to part company with the multipla and Fiat and ordered a new car today!!!!!!!........Adios lol

Sorry to hear that, in your situation I can't say I'd do anything different.

Appalling customer service from Fiat under the circumstances.

Without wishing to name the dealer, could you post the town so that folk can make
a more informed choice of dealer?

Where are you in the UK, as I am sure where ever you are we here on the forum can advise on a good Fiat independent garage that will take care of your Multipla. There are plenty of them.

I am suprised that you have normally gone to Fiat for the repairs, even though your dealer needs to be named and shamed. All UK car warranties from new, despite make, you can have your repairs done at any VAT registered garage as long as they use OEM parts, this makes a big difference to labour rates.
