I bought a second hand 2008 Fiat Punto for my daughters in feb 2010. I wanted a car that was economical and safe.
So far the car has been towed by Fiat assist to an authorised workshop three times. Each time it has taken 2 weeks to repair only to have the same problem with a day or two of it being supposedly fixed.
Suddenly while driving , the car begins to warn that there is a
problem with transmission. Then it will not allow you to move into a gear and then it stops completely with out warning. The first time it happened I had both hands on the steering wheel and the car went into reverse. (no I do not take drugs) while I was driving forward . I hear a big crunching clutch sound and then the light was showing that the car was in reverse.
The second time it happened my daughter was travelling on a busy HWY and she narrowly missed being hit.
Now the car is back in the workshop again. I wrote an email to Fiat Australia requesting that they look into the matter and perhaps offer me a loan car while my car was being fixed.
Fiat have refused to help in any way and cannot even give me time frame on how long the car will remain in the workshop I have asked them to put their refusal in writing and a person from Fiat Customer relations informed me that they only give verbal replies
Has anyone got any ideas on what I can do??
