Has anyone tried the Petronas Syntium oil sold by www.shop4parts.co.uk?

I've contacted the helpful guys there and they've told me that Petronas also make Selenia oil so recommend it. Their exact words were:

"In a nutshell the symtium oils are produced by PETRONAS oils, who also produce Selenia so I my opinion I would choose the symtium oils as these are the same grades only different packaging if I am honest."

I just wanted to see if any forumers have tried and tested this stuff and would recommend it and saving a few pounds...

Thanks all.

if it meets exactlŷ the same specs it shoud be fine but why risk anything other than the oil the car was designed to use

personally i like to use genuine parts and fluids

Lets be frank about this, the car is designed to use a specification of oil not a brand, the association with a brand is purely to drive business their way. Its simple marketing.

got 8l for £40 from shop4parts the other week, its petronas stuff so cant see it being any worse/better than selina, after all the same company make the stuff and it meets the same spec

So if I were to buy the Syntium stuff and do a complete change, if I ever needed to would it still be ok to top up with the 1 litre top up bottle of Selenia I carry in the boot?

Petronas does not produce Selenia. They bought over the company from Fiat (the original owners of Selenia) and own Selenia range of lubricants and other fluids.

Petronas Syntium is the recommended lubricants for Proton range of cars. I guess they may be good but it would wise to read other forums about their range of lubricants.

Petronas did not buy Selenia from Fiat.
There have been several owners of Selenia between Fiat and Petronas.
It hasn't been owned by Fiat for a very long time and has just been a commercial arrangement for many years.
Just use oil that meets the required specs, there is no advantage at all to using Selenia or Petronas.

Perhaps you can tell us what makes Selenia's ACEA C3 5W40 or ACEA C2 5W30 better than anyone else's?

Absolutely, I would like to hear that as well. In fact I would not be surprised to find out Selenia don't even manufacture their own oil.

no not really, i cant be bothered to try and explain any more
re-read my previous posts and try to read with an open mind in you like

you have your fixed opinion as do i

I am a scientist, I do not have a fixed opinion. I really only deal in facts, I have re-read your posts but I see nothing bar anecdotal evidence to support your claim. You are probably right with what you say but as others have asked if you could explain why then we will all be more educated about it. :)

this thread is getting silly oil is oil and anybody who thinks that a car engine is designed to only run on a certain brand of oil has well and truly fallen for the marketing that they spend millions on. as long as the oil you buy meets the specifications of the engine manufacturer then it will do its job and protect.

i use Mobil Super 3000 X1 5W-40 in my 2007 150 multijet as i know this is a very good oil for the money and if money was no object i would be using Millers Oils NANODRIVE CFS 5w-40 NT as this is a amazing oil and will out perform most oils no matter how much you spend.

just because BP put stickers all over ford cars and recommend you use BP fuel would this mean you would only fill up at BP? NO

If FIAT (or Alfa) developed engines have been adopted by GM, Ford, Suzuki etc etc – shouldn’t they all be using Selenia products?

Don’t forget – always ask for FIAT petrol or diesel!

Yeah I guess that if Fiat recommend Selenia then if it was crucial to use that brand then so would Vauxhall, Saab and all others who use and have used Fiat engines in their cars.... A recommendation isn't exactly saying you must you Selenia. I was really after reviews from forumers who have tried and tested the Petronas equivelent.....

Thanks all for your comments so far

I'm going to resurrect this thread now. Don't all jump down my throat lol.

I'm looking on S4P and the Petronas does specify that it's better for cars with a DPF because of low this and low that.

The one thing I don't want is my DPF packing in since my warranty is up, so if using a different oil helps then i'll use it.

I welcome your opinions.
