Hi,
Just a quick question about a 2000 plate 1.6.
Just recently we have been getting a petrol smell mainly from the rear of the car and also at times when driving with the windows down you can also smell it.
I have checked for leaks etc and found none and have also cleaned the car to make sure the car has no petrol residue from filling up.
Its not over powering but is noticable.
It seems to be almost like its venting from some where.
Hope someone can help.

The petrol pump, and the connections to it, are inside the fuel tank.
To gain access to the fuel lines and check the connections, remove two rear seats, the centre and drivers side. Remove the two runners, the nearside one of the offside seat and the offside of the centre seat, peel back the carpet and there is a cover with three screws holding it.
Remove this and you will see the fuel line and top of the tank so you can check them for soundness.
Takes about 20 mins, and will be worth it so you can exclude one possible cause.
If that's not the source, follow the fuel line forward to the inlet manifold.

hth
