General Petrol cap advice Coupe 16v Turbo

My brother has bought a coupe
Petrol flap problem
The small hard plastic ? locking catch thing is getting stuck in so it does not hold onto the lid catch when it is closed
It can just about be flicked out with a small screwdriver
tried WD40.....
can it be taken apart to fix or does it need a new complete cap ??
any advise much appreciated

The whole thing can be taken apart and dismantled IIRC.
Be careful when you take the screws out - I wouldn't want to drop them in the fuel tank!
If it's the plastic bit on the non-moving part of the filler cap, then you could hold the latch open as you close the cap to prevent it being pushed in.
