Several days ago, my Ulysses (04 Reg, 2.0 JTD Eleganza) decided to cut power to the engine while driving along at 40mph.

Scary, but stopped safely. The warning message was - ANTI THEFT SYSTEM FAULT. I could not restart the car, although electrics were OK - just kept turning over. I locked the car, unlocked and then it started. 10 minutes later same thing - on my way home to swap cars.

Same message, but took more than 2 lock/unlocks to restart - so I guess this may have had nothing to do with it, more a case of waiting 1 minute or so before trying to start it.

Next morning wouldn't start first time - never happened before. Also, oil warning light came on - service a month ago. So i refilled the near empty oil tank - no evidence of leaks.

On way to garage that same day, on the quiet back roads, it died 3 more times - same warning message each time, although once, very briefly, the message - ANTI POLLUTION SYSTEM FAULT appeared first, followed by the original ANTI THEFT SYSTEM FAULT. Same routine to restart it.

At the FIAT garage - could get no repsonse from the diagnostics laptop. Soon realised though, that a 20A fuse in the car had blown. This fuse is apparently only for the output to the diagnostics laptop (why so high I do not know, and neither do the garage staff).

Replaced the fuse, and got a signal to the laptop. No record of any faults showing. So garage staff have driven it about 50 miles in total and have failed to recreate the fault.

The only things that have happened since I experienced the faults are:

- changed the 20A fuse
- added a couple of litres of oil

Garage staff and I, are convinced that the blown fuse was as a result of the problem - not the cause. Also convinced that the low oil has nothing to do with it, but I think it may have something to do with it.

Sorry for being long winded, but thought I'd put all the history down. Anyone experienced this before - would love to know. I am about to pick the car up, with no work having been done on it.

Thanks

P
