Norwich Union have this in place, they put a box in your car, it monitors how many miles you do, they charge you for it. They'll know where you went and can track down the car should it get stolen. Now, I've tried to get a quote for this and even though I put my night time miles down to zero (just to get a quote), it says due to my night time miles the price may be unsuitable. Tried with 500miles and all others but still no quote.

Anyone else got this problem?

Also anyone with any further info on this would be very helpful!

Pay-as-you-go insurance quote

I hope this isn't a repost, I did a search and couldn't find anything!

Finding their costs was difficult but here is is:

This policy is designed for those of you, who do not use your car much late at night (ie 11pm to 5.59am)

Tariffs are calculated by:

Night time (11pm to 5.59am) £1 per mile

Day time (6am to 10.59pm)

first 100 miles per month free

100 to 500 miles per month from 6p per mile

500 miles and above from 4p per mile.

There is also a base premium, chargeable each month to cover risks such as fire and theft even when you are not using the car.

i put 100 miles down as night driving and it said i was unsuitable too

i was considering this myself on my second car, because it will be not driven at night and limited miles a month

my mate had one fitted on thurs, it was/is free fitting of the 'black box' , will wait for a while and see what he says, my only concern about something like this is a big bill dropping through the letterbox one month

Hmmm, I dunno what I'm doing wrong then!

Gaz, let us know what he thinks of it, because I'm seriously considering this as I can live with the sacrifices!

So whats the monthy rate that it talks about? Trying to find the costs on this is very difficult!

Would be no good for me! I've done 7k since July

Even if it were free I wouldn't do it.

Eventually it will be abused by authorities etc.

Maybe, maybe not. The data generated about your journies should fall under the data protection act. Insurance companies may however use data to asses the validity of a claim. (i.e. speed or location of vehicle at the time of a claim). But all of this is purely accademic if this is true.

i think this will just be rubbish, if they bring this to a large scale wont be long until people are making there own circuit thing up to a 12V supply and avoiding the insurance costs? i bet it will be able to be done- easily too.
sounds like a plan my good man (y)

in anycase it seems like it would be cheaper for me to pay my flat rate after all if for some reason I am going to be without my car for a long period I'd simply cancel my insurance cover and leave the car in the drive or garage where ever it is.

I work late nights and go clubbing so £1 per mile after 2300 is ridiculous, specially if the club is in say liecester or brummy or somewhere far, I covered approx 100 miles today alone and probably just oover half were done after 2300.

Less cars on the road at night.... so why is it more expensive at night?

To be honest all my driving is done later on at night either coming back from my girlfriends or mates or coming home from my job which is late nights..so.. Id pay £14 every journey for coming home from my mates and girlfriends who rufly live that far away, :) Il stick with normal insurance thank you!

Regards

Adam

They say that the majority of accidents that involve young drivers happen between them times...god knows how that came about (Friday nights?)

For someone like myself, I use my car to go to work and back, hardly use it for night time driving (for any particular reason).

Sure, should I need to use the car at night it would become a hinderance, however, if i've been quoted over £3k (TPFT) for my insurance next year, and day-time driving will total it to £400-£600 max, it's a small sacrifice to make.

Of course, it's not practical for everyone. But london transport does benefit myself so that's why it would be sensible for someone my age to go for something like this!

thats easily fixed without any fancy electrical equipment, amazing the effects a bit of tin foil can have on radio equipment

Hate to bring up an old thread (albeit, one I started!)

Whilst reading a thread in the Barchetta place, I realised it's actually possible for a 18 year old male, to get insured on one of these with this pay as you drive insurance!

Theres something for some of you to look forward to!
