Good evening all!
Right......
As you may have seen from my posts (if they were actually read) that for the last 3000 miles I have constantly had the error message "Engine Anti Pollution System Faulty" displayed on the screen along with the engine management light on.
Today a friend of a friend who works in a Peugeot/Citroen specialist garage kindly hooked their diagnostics machine onto my poorly Ulysse to see what the problem is. After a few minutes of button clicking etc the message "Throttle Position Sensor Faulty" popped up on his screen so off I went down to the dealership to buy a new one. The guy on the parts desk told me it was called a PONTETIOMETER which rung a bell for some reason. I checked the service history and a PONTETIOMETER was replaced in September 2006. The invoice notes said that it was replaced after the diagnostic machine said it was faulty and the cause of the customers engine anti pollution system faulty message being displayed. Part replaced, fault cleared on examiner and road tested. All OK. Right...... firstly, yes I know I should of gone through the service history but it wasen't until the parts guy said PONTETIOMETER and me remembering I had heard it from the previous owner when I bought the car saying he had replaced it. Secondly, the part number used on the invoice is 9639779080 which is Fiats part number for the pontetiometer. The guy on the parts desk told me that parts are covered by a 12 month guarantee so this part should be covered by Fiats 12 month guarantee BUT the car has changed ownership during the period of the part being replaced and then failing. Does this void any guarantee on the part? What would be my next step into getting the part replaced, would I ring the garage on the invoice or can I take the invoice to my Fiat dealership for a replacement part? The garage that replaced it originally are a good 200 miles away from me as I travelled far to buy it originally. Ideally I don't fancy doing a 400 mile round trip but if I have to I will as I don't want to pay the £162 to get it fixed and fitted if I can get away with it.
Many Thanks,
Neil.
