Panda Pandarth 4x4

More rust than car

Introduction

Bought this rather impulsively and for way too much but hey go , slowly cutting out the rot and welding it back together . Rear end is solid so just need to tidy up the subframes and replace everything I can before going down the t-jet route
Unusual car, fairplay to you welding your own car, maybe you are an expert welder or a capable amateur? I taught myself to weld and while I am slow, it's good enough to get the job done. Really satisfying doing stuff for yourself 🤗👍🇮🇪

Im more of a grinder than welder but can make things stick together so that’s a positive 😂 one side almost complete and ready for paint then I’ll get onto the other side which looks far better so hopefully wont take too long to make it sound. Then refurb the subframes / drivetrain and it can go back on the road 🤞

I have a flux core welder which isn't ideal but it's cheap and given enough practice works very well on thin stuff. I'm obviously in your league but good enough is fine when the only other option is paying someone money you don't have to do a job that may not be any better after grinding than we can do ourselves. My stick welder handles heavier stuff so that will cover alot of jobs needed elsewhere. I tried tig welding and it's something that would need lots of practice 😪
You have to make do with what you've got 👍🇮🇪

Exactly my thoughts , for me the process is enjoyable and is strangely relaxing. Think I’m resurrecting my old “built not bought” mindset from when I was younger, learnt to weld on my old 306 d-turbo when I fitted a TD04 turbo to it and had to adjust the manifold / weld up a new down pipe for the exhaust. I do miss that thing as it didn’t rust due to the galvanised bits and bobs 😂

I’m saving up for a Tig as this time I’d like to fab up a stainless manifold and exhaust so hopefully that will be a thing in the near future!
