Hi, I have a 2013 panda trekking diesel with 110k km on it. Never had a single problem driving it up and down the east coast of Oz. it hasn't even needed brake discs or pads. oil warning symbol came on today with occasional message to change the oil. Its not due a change yet. oil level good. Any ideas? Do these cars have a sensor for oil quality as I used a different service last time. Thanks for any ideas.

The MJ engines have an oil quality sensor based on dpf regenerations.

Most independent garages will reset the service indicator, but not necessarily the degredation counter.

If it's coming up advising a change either seek out a fiat specialist who can reset this for you, or if you have MultiECUScan scan and cables, it's a quick job to do yourself

I had the same issue with mine twice. They forgot to reset the degradation counter on the garage by the time the oil was changed. First time it appeared soon after the service was done.

Yes... sort of. The car counts the number of times the particulate filter regenerates, and uses that, along with time and distance since the last oil change (reset) to indicate the oil needs to be changed. It will generally come on between 18,000 and 26,000 miles, or after two years if that is sooner. It is not an indication of the oil level - only the dipstick can show that.

Note: if ignored for long enough, the car will go into 'limp mode' to protect the engine This (apparently) happens of you drive 300 miles (500km) with the warning showing. (I've not waited long enough to find out)

It can only be reset by a Fiat dealer, or using MultiECUScan connected to the ODB connector via the yellow adaptor lead.

A others have said, likely oil degredation not reset.
On the 1.9 JTD you can do a reset without Multiecuscan. It would be worth trying on your car. It can't do any harm. The proceedure is:

1-turn on the ignition key,
2-press the accelerator pedal and hold it,
3-press the brake pedal 7 times without releasing the accelerator pedal,
4-keep pressing the accelerator pedal for 60sec.
5-Release the accelerator pedal and turn of the ignition key,
6- Wait for 60sec.
Then turn on the ignition key and start the engine. Check if the service/oil change light turned off.

Thank you everyone. Ill take it back to my original service centre as it never happened when serviced there. Ill check if they reset the degradation counter too. Im not so concerned now.

Sadly on the Panda, this doesn’t work. There likely is a similar way to reset the service reminder (on the digital display) but to stop the separate flashing red oil can symbol (same light as for low oil pressure) needs to be done via OBD port.
