General panda classic 1000fire

Hi all.
Well wifey has bought a panda 1000 fire m reg 94 plate off eBay for 190 quid. Its solid with absolutely no rust to my surprise.
The problem is this....
It has recently had a new gearbox which I think is off a carbberated model and set up for the twin rods that run under the car.
The gear stick is set up with a cable and rod and obviously they don't link up. What do I do?.
I've thought about changing the for and cable over to the 2 rods that run underneath the car? Will this work?
Or do I have to get a gear box for the fire engine. I presume the box fitted is 5 speed.

I think the cat is in the way of the rods that run under the floorplan, which is one of the reasons Fiat changed the design

Mmmmm thanks Jim. So that option is out. Do I need to change the gearbox then?

If you don't need the 5 speed rod driven box - I can buy it of you if it's not to far away.
