Hi there, Im needing to get some new pads for the front of a 1.8 Bravo...

Now, the question is, do I go for Red dot/Pagid for 50ish or Ferodo DS2500 for £60. Now, I know ferodo are very good...what I am wondering is how they compare to the others in the bravo application...my preference id the DS2500...Any thoughts on this?

Cheers

Ali.

I didn't think Pagid made anything but OEM type pads.

The DS2500 is a grade up from the Red dot fast road, the DS2000 is the equiv of the red dot.

Sorry, I meant DS2000. Demon tweeks said that the pagid/red dot were the same price...Motorsportworld will do the ferodos for 60 inc postage which im very keen on..how are these compared to red dot?

Cheers

Ali.

I've used DS2000 on other cars, they will be going on my bravo when the red dots wear out. They are very good.

I'd go for the DS2000.

Just a thought - if you put 'better than oem' pads on a car, is it advisable to get 'better than oem' brake discs as well? Or not much in it?

Unless you go for a very expensive disc they will still be cast iron.

On toms advice i've fitted Ferodo DS2000's to the punto.
they're excellent pads and although they leave brake dust on the wheels, its far less than the originals.

anyways, i got to test them out on friday 'cos a mate asked me if they were any good :)

he said "Christ, you could have given me a warning, i hadn't even put my seat belt on!" LOL ;)

:)

dustless pads are for gayboys. I even converted Nige away from the utter foulness that is EBC.

my alloys are anthracite, at least they were until someone put 'clean me' on them. ;)

Beware the Ferodo pads with inferior disks. The pads are extremely good but not for stock disks. We have been experimenting with different pads and disks recently and found the six groove Red Dot disks to be excellent (as Tom knows) with DS2500 (DS2000) and the Red Dot pads excellent with CAR D&G disks! Not a lot of stopping differnece between them but longevity is an issue. Ferodo and CAR do not seem to go well as we keep warping the buggers, however CAR and standard pads give exactly the same "g" stoping power and fade resistance as RD disks and Ferodo pads so it depends on what you feel comnfortable with. CAR and RD seem to be more progressive and give a better feel, but that is just my opinion.
The worst test we did.... the first set of CAR and Ferodo - bedded in at Castle Coombe. Couldnt brake on the way home as the whole thing was shot to bits lol!
Whatever you do though - DO NOT BUY EBC!!! Tom didnt need to convince me, my ass hole spoke quite clearly after it cleared its throat while trying to stop using those things!

thats odd because i'm using standard disks with ordinary ferodo at the back and DS2000's on the front and the braking is excellent!

the stock disks must be good

Maybe they are OK on small cars then. Witht he grunt and weight of the Alfa I shot them through very quickly.

The alfa is gonna make a LOT more heat than a small car.

Fast road pads will never be quite as progressive as stock pads due to their harder compound.

with the original pads on, i could use about 75% braking, and the ABS would start chattering as and when it felt like it. now it is far more progressive to the point i know when the ABS will start.

i might get upgraded disks when these are worn out.

Cheap pads & grooved disks off ebay. Much better than before.

Total price for all 4 corners £80 inc vat & postage :)

Thanks tom. My preference was for the ferodo seeing as they seem to have a bit more RnD behind them. EBC are below standards on the list! (and incidentally, i happen to like dirty wheels!). Cheers, ile get the DS ordered up today.
