Hi guys, i really need your help here. I have a Multijet 130 and i cant get my check engine light to shutoff, i have tested all the wires so it have good contact from ECU down to the fan, i can run the fan directly without the relay (its on all the time then but it works). When i get the temp up to 106c the second fan activates but the first fan is 100% dead, i have bought a new ECU, new fuse box where you put the relay in. What can be wrong with it? cables from the ECU seems good.

Temp sensor works and are new.

Hi Alex

If your vehicle is an X250 (2006 to 2014) maybe I can help.

If you have no air conditioning, Fan 1 is controlled by Relay T07 and Fan 2 by Relay T06. The relay coils are grounded by the Engine Control Unit (ECU) to turn each fan on, depending on the temperature sensor output. The Relays and Fuses are in the Engine compartment.

If you have air conditioning, there is also a low-speed setting for Fan 1. The low speed occurs when a high-power ballast resistor is in circuit. Relay J028 shorts out this resistor when high-speed is needed. The coil of J028 is also driven by the ECU. I believe this resistor and relay are mounted near the radiator. If the resistor goes open-circuit you will lose the low-speed mode of Fan1

Fans take a lot of current, so the main wiring and grounds must be good. The fuses must be OK and making good contact, the Relays must be OK and making good contact. Sometimes, removing and replacing a Fuse or Relay several times will clean their contacts.

If you have no action at all from Fan1, check out Relay T07. You could try swapping over Relay T07 and Relay T06, to see if the problem moves to Fan 2.

A test meter would be useful for checking, it doesn't have to be an expensive one.

Good Luck Lycka Till

Relay 06 and 07 are different sizes, and styles on an X250 130. So you may not be able to swap them. But obviously you can test them which it sounds like you have done.

Hi, thanks for the input, i have this version
  • Fiat
  • Model Ducato Van 2.3 MultiJet
  • Year 2014 / 2014
The fan is dead on both speed modes, my AC fan works and it jumps on straight away when i activate the AC or when the idle temp for my engine goes to 106c.

Are you should i have that resistor coil? i will take a look :)

I assume your van is the same as mine where the first fan should kick in at 95c, and continue to run until down to 90c.

I would squeeze a wire down inside the relay connector for the neg activation, shove the relay in and tigger the relay that way as a test of complete system apart from the tigger activation which is done by the ecu.

My boxer has the same issue. New fan pack, if I probe pin 87 on the relays t6 and t7 fans run, if I probe the switch side of the relay with a negative fans run. Pins 21 and 28 of the black fuse box plug run to the ecu. Probe those with a negative fans run. The diagram shows pins 90 and 69 which is not the same as I have. It’s with Peugeot atm but they cannot find the fault

Any clue on where to go now would be greatly appreciated
