no stranger to this, i was a computer geek before a car geek - but since spending all my money on the car, i've not had much chance to play about with my computer. anyhoo. decieded to have a bash at overclocking it, and considering it was built using parts that were known to overclock quite well - i was expecting a semi decent result.

gigabyte ds3p, C2D e6300, 2gb geil pc6400. default cpu is 1.86ghz, at 1.325v.

currently sat at 3.25ghz, 1.4v. multiplier dropped to 6, and FSB running up near 475mhz. beast.

core temps are showing 58c and 60c at idle so i daren't load it for long, used TAT to load each core at 100% and the temps shot up - i bottled it above 65c. Tjunction is showing 85c.. which is a concern, but then it shows that at default speeds.

gonna bung one of these on, and see how far it can go stable.

think some chipset cooling wouldn't go amiss either.

that is all, for now :D

There was a guide on the hardforum or something like that which had a guide to cooling the northbridge chip - which is just as important to keep cool :)

3.2, very impressive :) I will be having a go at overclocking mine too very soon (when ive had a chance to actually sit down and read the ins and outs of it all), though only going for a light overclock of about 3 - 3.5 ghz (from 2.4 on the E6600 - same mobo and mem as you)

default FSB is 266.

i wouldnt say its 100% stable at this speed yet though, the temps are too high for my liking and so i don't wanna let the chip see full load for long. Once its properly cooled it'll be fine though, and i'm sure it'll go faster. I've not done tweaking yet.

aye luke, going to look into northbridge cooling, not sure if i'll just bung a fan on it or rip the cooler off and put something better on

From what ive seen, alot are now gluing fans to the current heatsink (after poor cooling from the aftermarket northbridge coolers) with some success. Was something i was going to have a go at today/tomorrow actually :)

sounds like your doing good there,i tried on this current chip and also my bros (similar) on mine it went fine but on my bros it wouldnt connect to the wireless internet, it just stopped

ahh well mines back to normal but this is tempted me to try again, even though last time i didnt go far:eek:

Wonder what size of case he'll go for!

Arc - Look at Zalman for some cooling products, and artic something they will keep it cool whilst still being quiet, not chea though.

liquid nitrogen is only a short hit, just run a phase change cooler as arc can vouch for I have one of these systems, runs the cpu at -60c all day long. However its sat under my bed at the moment awaiting repairs :( once I get my car on the road Ill be able to drop it off for repairs.

Excited about it, as I picked up a baragin on the rare P4 D 3.73ghx EXTREME edition cpu's. Should be good for 5ghz easy, and northbridge cooling will need to be excessive to handle the extreme fsb it'll be running at :)

a Astek Vapochill LS (Lightspeed) it is... Purchased at £500 now gone upto about £550. It seriously money but its also put you way ahead of the rest... It lasted longer than a month the first time round, and it will last longer this time round when I put it back in the garage to stay cool.
