OT: Windows XP StartUp with MS Dos Prompt

Hi need some advice. I require to boot up into MS Dos Prompt so i can flash my Bios. Any ideas how to do it.

I must be able to boot into the dos prompt before WIndows XP loads up.

Any ideas?

Get a floopy disk and stick it in.

Format the floppy disk (right-click on A:, then format), and tick MS Bootable disk (Or similar), then OK to format.

That's because it had MS-DOS still built in. That's like a Bravo with a 126 engine under the bonnet

Ah but heres the catch my PC doesn't have a Floppy Disc Drive. Supposedly they will phase out the floppy when they made my PC.

Then... Stick in your Windows XP disk.... boot from that, then cancel the install on the first screen...

Then your in DOS.


Then you can errr.. how do you Flash your bios without a floppy disk?

@ Rob - I know m8 Been using PC's since Windows 3.1/3.11 for Workgroups - Now don't make yourself sound old by saying that you grew up with Windows 1.0 and BBC's. LOL. (I can't even remember the PC's before that since I'm not that old!

If you go to your mobo's website, you may find they have a Win bios flash utility.

More and more manufacturers are developing them.

If it's an Asus then you're sorted.

If not, you could go the route of using a USB pen drive and booting to that if your motherboard supports it.

Cheers guys, none of the above worked.

So i opend up my pc and found that the pc supports a floppy so connected one to it and left it hanging out of the box, installed my flashing software on the same bootdisk and away it went.

Near enough every motherboard that you can buy these days will still have a floppy connector, it's just that PC makers don't fit the drives anymore !
