Ok so it's not a Fiat but hey,

I'm (hopefully) going to see a car tomorrow, a very old car. Okay it's 50 years old and has been off the road for a while and it does not want to start but hey we cant have everything can we?

What should i look out for? on a car this old? I can't take it for a test drive so thats out :( apart from great big holes in the floor and the like anything in specific i should be looking at?

just for anyone thats interested its a Triumph Herald 1960 948cc (however after a bit of searching I have found that the engine has been upgraded to a massive 1.2, i will need to check this out though)

Just had an insurance quote for 135 quid, nice
.
thats for the year not a month :)

Although it looks quite cute, you do realize the Herald is one of the most lethal cars ever made?

'Exciting' swing-axle handling, almost no grip, flimsy body panels attached to a simple separate chassis, probably no seatbelts and a bonnet that will decapitate at anything above a 40 MPH shunt...

If you're still keen, then the engines are iffy at best, but have the advantage of leaking oil over the front chassis legs, which at least slows-down their corrosion.

As for the rest of the metalwork, just check everything. Cooling is'nt too clever either and the exhaust often falls-off. It will leak rainwater in at least one place, if not many. Good Luck! lol

have you got the spare time and money to do it? wouldn't you be better off getting the rat back on the road? just a suggestion? like carroll said they are very iffy, and i would not take my kids out in one, but its up to you buddy, if you like it then go for it but be warned it will turn into a money pit, and i reckon after a couple of years you will be fed up with it

I called the place that had the car for sale only to be told that its no longer for sale as the 'gaffer' wants to take the plate off the car :(

I have since found another one for sale but its a little further away, approx 80 miles, while i dont mind going this far for it (I'm traveling 260 mile round trip on sunday to pick up a 50/60s cupard i got on ebay) i have no way of getting it back, unless i book it in for an mot ;)
