After a couple of days of agonising over whether I should buy the JVC AVX2 headunit, I decided to go for the JVC AVX11. The AVX2 was just outside my price range and I've not seen the AVX11 anywhere.

I bought it from a yank store on ebay for £180 delivered!!! tis £300 from British stores :D Not looking forward to the VAT bill though

Hopefully I'll have it before my journey down south and if my ebay items do well I'll be buying the ipod connector too :D

Here's a pic:

My mate had the older model of this, looks nice but the screen is too small to watch a whole DVD

lol, I'm not planning on doing alot of DVD watching in the car but I think it'd be good for 20minute waits an such like. I would get one with a motorised screen but it would obscure the climate control

Just fancied something fancy for the brief, the HU I've got now just doesn'y fit with the rest of the car.

as I said on Msn man its looking good. You got me looking for a new HU now as mines is 2 years old and randomly decides to switch itself off - with my suspension i think I need one with anti-jog in it

Just purchased the I-pod interface for it, no more cd's in the car...woohoo!

I think this is post 400

thats a nice head unit! although you'll still need CD's for films or does it play divx from the ipod?

That's a good question!

Apparently it's the same interface so I might be able to play DIVX through the i-pod. As stated though it's mainly for music...there's no way I'm leaving any of my prized DVD collection in the motor :D

Just checked the Fedex tracking and it's just left California, looks like it'll tuesday/wednesday before I get it :(

there would be no need to leave your prized DVD's in the car anyways, just encode them to DivX and bang 5 films onto one DVD...minimizes space and who cares if they get nicked!!
Shame you have to wait though, thats the only downfall to online ordering...I always want mine NOW!!! lmao

Oddly enough I don't have a DVD burner!!! I have just about everything else lol, maybe next month

I was hoping for it Friday so I've got something to do on Saturday - need to take apart the glove box for this ipod connector thingy, got no time next week

It's in Stansted now, so close I can taste it lol

grrrr. I also realised today that the ipod thingy is coming from america too. Nothing good is ever simple.

hey matt just to make you realy happy the jvc ipod adapters are cack :D mines is in the car but the controls suck hehe

the controls dont go the way the buttons describe i dont know if you get what i mean but i think you will when it arrives :D

I finally got it this afternoon - opened it to find the wiring loom is just a bunch of wires!!! Instead of hacking at the existing loom I decided to go buy a new one - what a nightmare. Went to 3 Hellfrauds and they don't stock them - "we can maybe get them in friday" they said to the back of my head as I walk out the door. Also noticed my alarm and remote locking stop working, then climate control and my odometer keeps resetting!

So I go to a motor factor down the road and he tell me to a) hack it up, or b) go to Beaver Audio on Great Western road. By this point I admit defeat and o home for a much needed **** and work out the alarm problem - I blew a 10amp fuse when I removed the HU?? Will need to find the short in there sometime.

As for tomorrow...I'll be heading to Beaver at 9:30 sharp, got a long drive to Leeds as early as possible :(

Another post for the day.

I couldn't sit about waiting for a new loom so I found a Kenwood sitting in the hall (how convenient) and all of the basic wires are in the right place. Fitted it and it works a treat - the infinity's I fitted a couple of weeks back actually sound good under load, I'm actually getting some decent bass out of them!!

Anyway, 3 problems have come to light:

1. It only plays R1 DVD's (I have about 50 anyway) but I bought it with the understanding it'll play region 1,2,3 & 4 DVD's - email sent.

2. I need to attach a wire to the handbrake cable thingy in order for the screen to play DVD's - I can still hear them though, just can't see nowt. - Looks like I'll be taking apart the centre console soon.

3. I'm struggling to fit the thing into the dash due to the ridiculous number of wires coming out the back. I think taking the glove box out will give me more room to play with - need to do this anyway for the ipod adaptor.
