Hi,

Just a quick question. I have a 2004 Stilo Multiwagon. Unfortunately when I bought the car it only had the blue key without the remote locking/unlocking.

I have ordered a replacement key with the remote but in the meantime the only way I can open the boot is by crawling into the estate and opening it using the emergency procedure of placing a screwdriver in the hole in the rear of the tailgate. My tailgate is one complete unit and does not have the seperate opening glass.

However, I have read on here there should be a switch underneath the rubber part of the grab handle on the outside of the tailgate which will open the tailgate. Mine doesnt seem to do anything. Is this correct their should be a switch there and is it easily replaced if mine is broken?

Thanks, Lee.

I have researched this a bit more. I have changed the settings to independant boot off in the menu but this still has not helped. I presume this only works if I use the remote button which I do not have (I have to lock/unlock the doors using the blue key I have). I have also taken the black rubber bit from the tailgate grab handle which has revealed a large plastic switch underneath. I understand from reading a previous post I need to prise this off and it will reveal another switch? Is this correct?

I think I read on another post that if you hold down the door open button from inside the cabin, with the right ind. boot and driver lock settings, then that also opens the boot. Can't verify it though as my boot is also broken!

Inside the plastic switch is a microswitch. This can be dirty (use electric contact cleaner) or broken. If so you can tinker with a new microswitch in the right dimensions and a solderingiron or replace the whole switch (€65 at the dealer).

I have tried the open door button inside the cabin with various settings but still no joy. I have removed the black plastic cover on the grab handle now to reveal the microswitch. I'm going to buy some contact cleaner to spray liberally all over it to see if this works if not might have to get my local auto electrical place to have a look.

To replace the complete switch the complete inner lining has to come off. Loosen 2 allen bolts and a few screws (don't forget the two underneath the upper part covering the wipermotor).
New switch comes with a new connector so you can cut the old wires and remove the old switch. New one in, wires through the correct hole, new connector in and voila!
