I'm a Marea section virgin so do go easy with me

Collect my Marea tomorrow, if it hadn't been for this forum I wouldn't have known anything about them and probably wouldn't have even considered one. Mind you, after hearing Polecat's that's the kind of sound I'll be trying to recreate - still think it sounds like a big 6 or even an 8!

It's a silver R reg 2.0 20v HLX, needs a spot of work but other than that the bodywork is fantastic and I'm impressed so far - although all I have done is a brief test drive. Dead cheap for what it offers IMO, got it for just over a grand with 90K on the clock but it runs sweet. Think it's not the type of car that's going to have been thrashed, and it still feels tight.

It's gonna be odd getting used to driving a big thing again - last time I had anything this size was 5 years ago, and I've been driving Cinquecentos since. Just felt it was time for a bit of a change, and that it would be nice to be able to take kid and passengers to places without needing a block and tackle to extract them from the rear seats.

...ok, ok, it's because I'm getting on and really would like something comfy to pootle around in. I don't have to do much town driving, so hopefully the car-paid-for-petrol-on-HP thing won't apply!

If anyone's agreeable, when I come across jobs to be done I'll post details on here - maybe with photos if I can get organised. One of the first jobs will be .... the dreaded Cam Belt. Spoke to the previous owner, who says he has had it serviced religiously but never a new belt fitted. Ook.
Ah well, I'm proficient at hurting myself with a wide range of tools and accessories so I'm sure I'll muddle through.

Hi fixitagaintomorrow and welcome to our forum :)
We are a friendly bunch here and i'm sure you'll fit in just fine..............;)

Pete, i'm impressed that you are even considering dropping the engine yourself  , I hope you have a decent A frame and a big box full of jubilee clips. ;)

I've just blown my remote control and radio putting some new LED courtesy lamps in. :( Didn't notice the end caps were proud of the glass and shorting out on the reflector. Why is it you always have 5 fuses of every possible value except the one you need? Got it fixed now apart from finding where I hid the radio code for safety. New blue lamps make my old ones look green. :D

Give me a shout when you pick it up and i'll arrange for a loan, fill my tank up and come and have a play. :D(y)

Cheers Dave :)

I've done about 10 engine swaps now, maybe more so this shouldn't beat me. Admittedly I haven't done a 5 pot before though, and it all looks a bit tight... still, I'll manage. Can hire a hoist for £20 a day locally, but if there's a way to do it without then I'll find it :D

Won't be taxing it until 1st Feb, so will sort the niggles out first.
Do Angel Tuning do Mareas? :D

You've got yourself a good car there. I'm dead chuffed with mine although the petrol consumption took a little time to get used to  This forum is great and it is worth having a look through old threads if you have any issues 'cause I have found a few answers doing this. If you get good at doing the CAM change mine is due next year :D

Welcome to the Marea Forum!

Cheers y'all.

Was a bit concerned about the belt, it has Fiat history up to 36K but no more. I've got a couple of weeks yet before I can drive it, so I'll crawl in, over, under and through it to see what wants sorting. Even if it takes a week to do the belt, then so be it :)

..and Steve, Proper car? Weren't you looking for a cinq? :D

Aaah, it's only nuts and bolts. Admittedly quite a lot of nuts and bolts, but still just like a big Meccano set.

Yep son, another car. Silver cinq is gonna go.

You have to bring the Sliver one down the arni before you get rid of it as i have not seen it yet ;)

Good luck on the new car/toy :D:D

David
