General Only one back light working with engine off?

As title,

My best mate has just bought himself a mk1 60sx, he noticed that when the car is sat not running only one rear side light comes on, yet when the car is started it comes back on straight away.

Is this normal or is there some sort of electrical fault?

Its been 5 years since I've had my punto so cant remember if mine did this or not?!

What position is the key in? Totally off? Or acc?

Mine only switches it's lights on when the key is acc or running.

I'd suggest rusty connector or a bad earth but that's normally a bit more random than that.

well it has to be on ACC, otherwise they wouldnt come on at all. I doubt its a bad earth either else it wouldn't turn on when the car is started?

is it only ever the one light that does it?

maybe taking off the light cluster and having a look at the wiring, maybe someone has made a bodge repair or done a bit of DIY wiring?

Does the mk1 have parking lights?. . i.e. leave indicator on plus side lights (and key in acc position on a punto) and then only the side the indicator is on for lights up
