Hi, my name is Thei. Dutch, Limburg born and Italia tifoso since a long time. My parents never had a car, but my brother and I were fascinated by design. So for me it started in the seventies when my older brother bought a book about Fiats called FIAT Sportscars, by Graham Robson. I couldn't read the english texts, but the images said it all for me. Learning english at school I learned that cars could differ by design in form or engine. And what forms they had: Fiat Dino, X1/9, 124 Spider!
Once bitten by the carbug we read books and magazines about the old european makes like Lancia, Citroën, Peugeot, Alfa Romeo, Jaguar, Maserati and Lamborghini.
So it was evident the first car I bought as a student was the Citroën 2CV. Iconic design, cheap, simple and affordable to maintain. This lasted 4 ugly ducklings and 11 years until my girlfriend and I bought our first italian bolide: an Alfa Romeo 33 Sportwagon 1.3S. What a difference and what a great handling. The sound of this twin carburettor boxer was superbe.
Another 33 came (the 33 1.7 QV rocket), a 1.4 IE, a 146, a 156 Sportwagon, a Fiat Punto 176 (great little car), two 156 SW's, the formidable Giulietta 1.4 multiair turbo and a 156SW. Again. This last Alfa was not a good one, did not pass the MOT/APK/Tüv and the Alfavirus faded away.
After 29 years of Alfa we focussed on a Lancia or a Fiat. The first Alfa was my wife's choice. This new car too: we bought a Fiat Croma tipo2, 2007. 2.2 ltr 188.000 kms, well maintained.
This Fiat is not a sportscar. But I'm 61, maybe this one suits me... (not
).
So this is where we stand. Information and connection with fellow drivers is important and since the Croma is not a million sold Punto, a 127 nor a 500, I registerd the Fiat Forum. I hope to find Fiat and Croma drivers here who can keep me virtually on the road. Maybe I can help others with my long term driving experience.
Hope to meet you here, Tulipo
