i know it happens on some cars but wasnt aware it was a problem on the 20v, since getting it back together its been leaking oil from the rocker cover, i fitted new gaskets so i dunno why its leaking, i made sure i didnt crack the corner (done that once before) but its leaking :( should i have rubbed some new oil on it?

i've had rocker gaskets leaking on me on many cars. i'm assuming your gasket is the cork type? i find that once they heat up and get settled in they leak even more because the cork loses is elasticity. i usually tighten the rocker cover bolts every other day until they remain tight (usually 4-5 attempts), at that point i know the cork has stopped shrinking. once even this wasn't enough so i used liquid gasket on each side of the rocker gasket prior to fitting and it was fine after that. i should mention that a warped head (due to previous overheating) can sometimes have problems getting a good seal with the rocker cover because the cover is different metal and less likely to warp (similar situation to head gasket repair problems if you dont skim). if you've had overheating problems in the past this is possible.

That's funny, I've just received the replacement gasket's for my 2.0 20v.
I ordered the Fiat original items from my local dealer.
They are now made of durable hard rubber. I hope that solves my leaky Rocker Cover.

Part Number:
7766236 Rocker Cover Gasket X1
7750732 Spark Plug Cover Gasket X1
7715492 Spark Plug Seals X5
All for £20.70.

I hope that helps.

Well, I put on all the new gasket's, but the old one's were fine, so I assume that the reason why 2.0 20v rocker cover gasket's leak is because they use a harder rubber than they need to. If only they made a durable Cork gasket, that might solve the problem.

try putting liquid gasket or gasket paste on both sides of the rubber gasket. dont get it everywhere it clogs things up nicely (like oil ways)

That was exactly what I was thinking at the time, but I wasn't sure which type to use. But now I'm thinking of a semi-hardening silicone paste that would act as a barrier edge to stop the oil from getting underneath the gasket.

Well, if both your existing gaskets are rubber and your still having oil leak problems, this may help.

LOL @ the cat climbing over the open engine

Can't remember if I took pics of my engine when it was coverless. Looked quite similar obviously minus the extra cylinder.

Be a good time to paint your cam cover while it's off the engine. (y)
