Technical oil filter corrosion

I have just seen a discussion thread on a motorhome forum (link below)

The thread is from the owner of a 2013 Ducato who has reported severe corrosion of a FIAT original oil filter less than a year old resulting in an oil leak from the filter itself.

The user goes on to say there is evidence that this is not an isolated case with severe engine damage having been caused to a number of other vehicles with similar problems.

Has anyone else come across this problem? I was aware of the sump corrosion issues affecting older vans but this is a new & alarming problem if true.....

i would say more likely damage to paint on the exterior of the filter during fitting and corrosion setting in after that-most filters at a couple of years old have some rust on them,motorhomes may be more prone to this spending weeks or months in storage each year
