Hi there

We previously posted saying we were interesed in getting a Stilo and needed some advice as to which model had what on it. Anyway after looking at loads of models, we are now the proud owners of an 02 5dr Abarth in Ice blue/silver.

We're enjoying the Abarth so far, except that it seems to be drinking oil at an alarming rate. We've had the car 2 weeks today and we've already put in nearly 2 litres of oil!!

We searched this forum and other sites and it does seem the Abarth is a bit of an oil burner but surely it shouldn't be this much?!?

What are others using on here??

The car has been well looked after, full service history, anything the car has needed it has had!! It goes like a dream, no knocks, tapping or banging and there doesn't seem to be any sign of a leak.

Since the start it's had Selenia oil, so we've carried on using that.

Any advice/suggestions welcome.

Thanks in advance!!

mine does use a lot of oli but.. but also looking for an answer

Hmmm. Once the slight oil weep I had from a camshaft oil seal was cured, my Abarth uses very little oil. Maximum half a litre per 3,000 miles I'd say...

Have you thoroughly checked the engine for leaks? The oil filter is very inaccessible, so if that's weeping, it would be easy to overlook it.

My car gets abused a bit to be fair. I am a lazy b***** and work literally just over half a mile fro mmy house. My car uses about half a litre a month which I really put down to the fact the car never gets warmed up properly on a morning.

That does sound excessive though

What oil should i get 2.4

I'm looking to get oil for my abarth 2.4 selespeed 20v...

my uses a lot of oil but car see any oil leeks would it be better to get a little thicker oil ??

please help

Dave

Re: What oil should i get 2.4

no one no's then ..

I would be reluctant to use an oil other than one within the recommeded viscosity range. A thicker oil may burn off less quickly, but it's more likely to block an oilway with disastrous results.

I've used Mobil 1 (0W-40) for years and swear by it - but I'm sure there will be others along soon with other views...

Thanks all for your replies, much appreciated!!

Well it seems the oil has found it's level, we've been on a couple of journeys 50+ miles each time and the next day the level has been spot on. I

We were thinking about using thicker oil but have stuck with what's recommended.

Obviously we'll keep an eye on it - now just to sort out our other issue!! Sim not working in Connect Nav...........

My Sele has just over 50 thousand miles showing and it uses very little oil. It gets Shell Helix Ultra in 10w40 at changes and then gets topped up with Castrol GTX Magnatec. (I had some left over from when I uses to change my own oil!) It uses less than 1 litre between oil changes which I have done every 6 thousand miles, I always keep it up to the max mark cold and rested.

I reckon some just use more oil than others. If you're not seeing blue smoke out the back and the car pulls and drives fine, its fine. Oil useage goes up as the bores and piston rings wear or the valve stem seals start to seap oil as the car cools. Shouldn't even start to be a problem until a good 150k+
