Technical Oil change/filter frequency

Hi All,

I know there are a lot of threads on this but just require a recommendation.

I drive approx 14k per year and do quite a few short trips (under 10 miles).

I plan on using selenia k as advised by my manual, I just dont know how often to do it.

I've already paid for the car to be serviced by evans halshaw every year but this seems too long to wait.

What does everyone reckon?

I stop-start drive a lot also so its not like the car runs in perfect driving conditions.

Every 6 months if you really care, 1 year if you're not too bothered (it's a 1.4 Punto ffs) or never if you don't give a crap.

Carrie's driving habits are similar, less annual mileage but mostly stop-start short trips, after 12 months although the level was fine the oil was pitch black. When she gets her new one I'll be stepping it up to every 6 months, and doing the same on mine too.

Diesel or Petrol? Remember derv oil is always pitch black, even after 1 day.

Is Scoobs and Evos that have to be changed every 4k miles? Feck that. The rotary engine drinks oil like a mother too. Just be glad you don't own those cars!

the oil is selenia 5W40 ?? i presume its semi synthetic ?

i recently got my grande punto and had it changed at a fiat dealer and they used this oil as its recommended by fiat.

i would change oil n filter every 6 months which is reasonable.

I'd stick with twelve months. Lots of cars are 20k or two years and I assume you don't have a turbo to worry about. My t jet is only going to get it once a year, I do 8k largely urban short trips.

Jap cars always require more frequent oil changes, my last car was a Nissan and I had to change the oil + filter every 3k miles
