odometer blackout

Hi there.

My odometer on my 96 1.4s has gone dead. All the rest of the warning lights are working ok, as is the speedo and the panel lights.

Does anyone know if there is a back light that produces the lcd display? I can barely see the figures depending on the way the sun hits the car, so it is still clocking up the miles.

By the way, i've just had it converted to LPG. Anyone else done the same? I'm pretty impressed with it so far.

I'm afraid i can't help you with the odometer, but i am very interesting in your LPG conversion. Was it expensive,where did you get it done and did it affect the performance of the car?

By the way, does your odometer give a digital read-out?, cause my '97 1.4sx doesn't

Hi Colm.

My conversion was done by AutoGas Caledonia of Perth in Scotland. The total cost including vat was £1500. Quite expensive it looks at first, but I do between 30,000 and 35,000 a year, so I am looking at a potential payback of 12-18months, which I consider to be pretty reasonable.

I haven't really notice performance suffer that much as I do mostly motorway driving with the car, but I have noticed that is doesn't have the same top speed as it used to. Which of course was never over 70mph as this would be totally illegal . As far as consumption goes, I have lost about 15% per gallon, but at an average of 40p a litre, it will work out ok and it seems really weird when your petrol gauge doesnt' go down!!
One last point, there is not much of boot left (it wasn't very big anyway), but I have a family car that we use for carrying most things that require a big boot area, so it didn't bother me.

As for the odometer, yes it is digital....bloody things!!!

Odometer

I believe the light bulb at the back of your odometer has gone bust. I had a similar experience when I couldn't see any readings on the digital square. My mechanic solved it for me.

Digital Odometer

Hi Colm,
Just to explain, the Brava has a digital odometer. Maybe not all but any 1.4S/SX Brava I have seen has 1/2 moon speedo and digital Odometer.
Completely different to the Bravo.
