Some horrendous things happening in the O2 shops... people being suspended for trivial issues and sackings going on... anyone got any inside information?

Lad I know got through to 2nd interview for the O2 shops Guru position, he had a conversation about a till receipt left on a counter.

They did his interview... passed him as successful, he's prepping his presentation for the next stage... really keen and a bright guy.

Next day he goes into work and bang.... Suspended! WTF....?

The recession probably means that they have to cut staff. To do this without having to announce financial struggles etc is to sack people every time they fart and cough.
Its a hard call to make, you go public which can never be a good thing and get rid of the wasters or potentially sack people who are a credit to the company trying to cover it up. :bang:

Well if it was a EFT reciept then its a serious data protection issue, so he deserved it in my view. The amount of staff where I work who don't reaise how sensitive the information on them is! Its shocking.

But if just a normal reciept then O2 are being a tad OTT

 thought they only had the last 4 digits these days.

Normally always a physical copy, because retailer can loose the transfer of funds if the system fails and they haven't the physical copy :p
Where I work its kept electronically (I won't mention the name). All receipts can be traced back for a few weeks if required.
More secure as tracing back transactions is limited to only a few employees compared to those who can work the cash registers and as its electronic a record can be kept of anyone accessing the system.

But if they problem is wit your companys system, bye bye money transfer, although these errors and problems very rarly happen.

Good point MEP, I have discussed the Data Protection issue with him, he understands, but it shouldnt constitute summary dismissal which has been implied, maybe a written final warning.

Or has employment law changed to remove the rights to verbal, written and final warnings?

Nope, you've made a good point there, as luckily his actions haven't resulted in fraud etc, so I agree with you it should havejust been a tickin off etc, but depends if he's had any tickings off before or not :(

Employment law is a bit strange, in that, providing the employer has followed what it says in the Company handbook, then it doesn't matter whether the Manager involved has reached the right decision, as long as the procedure was right.

Cheers
