Hi all, can anyone help? my marea doesnt start when the engine is hot.: i have borrowed a battery because it sounded like the original was going flat.this has made no difference at all .
if i leave the car for 30 minutes to cool down a bit it starts ok.it also fires up ok first thing in the morning when i go to work (3.30!)
any ideas or solutions would be very gratefully appreciated.
Thanks.........Mel.aka skunkbum.

does it turn over when hot?
it doesnt turn over properly.its almost like the battery is very low.if i try it again when its cooled down...no problem

this is common on all cars. you need to clean the battery terminals, the earth strap connections and the starter motor wiring connections. most often its just the battery terminals so try them first, even if they look clean sand them down to get oxidation off and then grease them. dont just clean the 2 terminals on the battery, also clean the inside of the clamp connectors before reconnecting them to the battery.

thank you EVERYONE who has answered my call for help.will try the easy options first..hopefully they will work before i have to spend anymore money on the car.i had the car for 4 days when the cambelt snapped on the way to work at 3.30 one morning leaving me to have all 16 valves and four guides to replace....expensive !! Again many thanks...Mel

Respect to you for having the work done! Many would have scrapped it. Should be good with new belts for a good hundred thou or more now (y)

wow i havent heard of someone bending all their valves for years. when it happens that bad you very often bend a conrod or make an impression on the piston face (because they hit the valve so hard). did you check the conditon of the piston faces and check the stroke of each piston? you may have poor/uneven compression due to conrod damage which could also cause the starting problems. i'd get a compression test done and keep your fingers crossed its alright.

skunkbum,
Since you've just rebuilt the engine....
1.Recheck the timing belt setting(timing mark) & the cambelt tension
2. recheck the gap of the TDC sensor

Cheers
