As I was waiting for the uprated clutch to arrive the other day, I noticed a patch of rust on the passengers floorpan by the rear door.

Today I started to remove all the old underseal and this is what I ended up with ...

Now me and rust go back a long way, what with owning a 131  but I didn't expect this. The drain holes are useless as the tar laid on the inside of the car block them off and the problem has probably been compounded by muppets using the floorpan as a jacking point when changing tyres and weakening it

It's not a problem to fix as I've had plenty of use with the welder. Here's the wishbones I made for the 131

Made new chassis legs and part of the floor pan for the same.

But I'm just wondering if anyone else has had problems with tinworm in the same or any other area ? and is the battery the only thing I need to disconnect before welding ?.

Cheers
Mick.

 that does look shocking, i've not looked over mine properly but not not noticed anything other than the fron sill crushed from being used as a jacking point :(

love the look of the 131 wishbone

do you have a project log for the 131?

Ry

I have recently heard of a 2.4 needing more welding than the car was worth. It was the first I'd heard of having a problem so bed. It' was a 99.

Hope it's not something we all have to contend with in the near future.

Pleased to say our Marea is still solid and corrosion free, I'm impressed with how rust free it is for a 9 year old cheap car. Fiat needed to do something of course given their reputation. I guess you will just make a little plate, fold some lips on it and spot weld it in. It doesn't show so no need joggle it in and grind it down on an everday driver.

Wishies are OK aren't they, even if I do say so myself. Floor looks bad though doesn't it . It can be welded but I had hoped to work on the 131 this week. Will start a post in the other Fiats section tonight.

@ Venters - Wow a '99 model , if I was to send it away to be welded I'd possibly be in the same boat.

@ Renegade - Yeah, no need to go mad just replace whats missing.

Added a thread in the Other Fiats section about the 131 if anyone fancies a butchers :)

Cheers
Mick.
