Ok, well, to cut a long story short, my UT ran fine before i took the box off for a rebuild and swapped my fuel tank over for my alloy one.

Since fitting the new box and tank, i now don't have a spark what so ever. I've had my mate (an Auto Electrician) out and we checked the coil and that was shot. So fitted a new coil and it still didnt work. So, he checked every wire from the ECU to the coil, every wire from the Amplifier plug to where ever that goes, checked all my crank position sensor and other sensors (thers 3 on the UT) and they are all working fine no probs and all the wiring is fine.

So, after checking everything spark related, and checking everything was plugged in and earthed properly, he said that it was either the ECU knackered or the coil Amplifier was shot.

a quick call to wayne (off here) and he said to come try them on his car, so i went up with my ECU and my Amplifier and coil and tryed them on his car. It work perfectly fine with all combinations, my ecu, his coil, his ecu, my coil, both my ecu and coil, and it worked everytime no problem!

so now what the hell do i do?????? i'm completly stuck!! The cars sat there ready for an oil change then MOT and theres nothing i can do to get it going!

is there anything else that will stop the car getting spark? Theres no immobiliser, no alarm so thats out the question. The cars also getting fuel as the plugs are wet and smell of fuel and the engines turning over perfectly well, just no bloody spark! grrrrrrrr

need help ASAP!!!!

any ideas??

cheers from a very desperate Dunc

Hi dunc did you check the connection block under the headertank, thats where i lost my spark to the coil, years of dripping water/antifreeze mix corroded it away, had to solder in new wire, have you got a powerprobe (sealey£15 ebay) very handy for providing lives/earths etc great for fault finding, as with every elec fault start at prob and work your way back, always handy to have spares to try, the suns out get out there and fixey fixey!!!! Ant!

you cant miss it its part of the loom, big connecter 2 wires, will be grean for sure, situated right under the headertank you may need to remove the tank and afm to get to it, when i bought the ut it wouldnt start and had a spurious blue wire coming from the ignitionswitch going to the coil which was a live down, check you have the relevant lives at the coil, Ant!

Sounds similar to a problem I had. Can you check the injectors with a noid kit? If the don't get anything at the injectors I would say one of the sensors, flywheel/crank isn't working. If the ECU doesn't know the engines turning over it won't send a signal to the sensors. By the way if you are checking resistance of the sensor it doesn't guarantee it's working. I had one which read the correct resistance but wasn't working, then testing pulsing when turned over and nothing. Swapped sensor, fired up first time.

Doh, just saw you said you have fuel......hmmm there isn't much more to check, sounds like Ant's sugestion may help.

Can't think of much else to add, other than to go over with a fine tooth comb anything that was removed to enable the fitting of the fuel tank and the changing of the gearbox. It does sound to me more like a sensor is not doing its job i.e. crank sensor.

I guess you need to check/ re-check and try and locate the problem by a process of elimination.
