Yeah get the card, sometimes it comes with a Micro SD card sometime it don't.
No flashing or tampering with the DS is required, Ninty though no one could copy the games with there being no carts around so didn't bother doing any protection.
so you get the R4 or 3 card, use the cd to load on the emulation software onto it (Piece of proverbial) loads roms onto the micro SD then insert the cartridge.
Not every games works and sometimes you don't get the saves but this is more rare plus some games don't like sleep mode.
