Hi guys
Gone through three alternators all 14.5V, and a new battery on my '93 1.4ieS trying to solve the problem that we been having for a while now, namely, all of a sudden, the car will lose power, lights dim, etc etc and the car will just stop! So much so that now we are terrified of putting the heater on at the same time as the headlights just in case it happens again!!!
Any other ideas?

Since we been doing this, I must admit, we not had any more problems, but I dont want to risk breaking down again!!

Cheers, Mark

It is unlikely that a faulty alternator will result in 'sudden loss of power - check your earth wire.

you should see which components cause this problem, and then check the condition of the electrical connections for signs of corrosion, or short circuit. Also check earthing points such as door hinges, and earthing wires to check the condition of the connection and corosion again. If all appears Ok, then I suggest that you check the fuse box for faults, however this can be expensive to replace, but you may be able to get one out of a scrap yard, just remember to check for version diferences.
