My car went wrong on the way to norwich and was diagnosed by the RAC as a dead ignition pack. I limped it to my destination and hunted for a garage, while searching i stumbled across Nick Harper who was located just off Mile Cross Lane.
After a phone conversation with him he suggested it may have been the ECU at fault as this is what the symptoms suggested, he asked me to take it in to double check.
He ran a few checks and eventually found cylinder 1 and 2 had no compression, 3 and 4 were through the roof. I left the car with him as i had to return back to york. through the week i had several calls keeping me up to date with progress, it turns out not only had the gasket blown but some of the metal on the head had blown as well. the coolant and oil had also been contaminated and he noticed my radiator fan/motor/cowl had gone and suggested this wouldn't have helped.
I purchased the fan from shop4parts and had it delivered direct to Nick. last monday I received a call from Nick saying the car had been fixed so arranged to meet him the sat after, which he agree'd to however I will note he doesn't actually open weekends.
So today i picked my car up, he showed me pictures of the head and what had happened etc. He's a nice bloke and prices are reasonable, if I had the car at home i could have done most of the repair myself however it was 180 miles from home so i was kinda stuck as to what i could do.
Overall im happy with Nick and what he has done. He certainly knows his fiats (as any fiat specialist should) and was brilliant at keeping me up to date. Im also very thankful that he met me early on a day he didn't open so i could get my car. He also said he would cover the repair with a 1 year warranty!
I will post back after a few hundred miles with an update as to how the car is.
