Technical newbie needing help

hi all love the site could anyone help me with a problem im having

when the car is in gear under load i get a grating noise i was told its the drive shaft i have took the drivers one out it looks ok so i put the drive shaft back in .when the wheels were turnedby hand they did almost a full 360 then they lock in place after a bit of forcefull pulling they free them selfs, so i thought try and put the car in gear and much to my amazment both wheels turned i couldnt stop either of them :

could it be my diff bearing that has gone sorry to not make much sence i have tried to explain the best i can

If you start the car and put it in gear both wheels will turn, the inertia of the wheels make them difficult to stop, there's 30-40lbs in motion but either should stop if restrained, try a plank of wood levering against the floor.

If you can't stop the wheels or the grinding noise starts when a wheel is stopped, suspect diff.

Make sure the hand brake is on hard and the rears are chocked

hi tried the wood to stop the wheels when stopped they grind went out to buy a gearbox only to be supplied with the wrong one so my question is now how many different gear boxes there is for the multipla please

I think JTD's all had the same gearbox, petrol version probably had a different gearbox due to different power/torque.
You need to get the gearbox type from the gearbox itself, I've not had to find this so hopefully someone else will know where it's located.
