Hi, I'm new to this forum even though me and my wife have owned Fiats since the 1980s with only a two year gap where we strayed to Mazda but soon realised Fiats are better!

I do also own a Vectra, Citroen motorhome, and a classic 1965 Triumph Herald so my ownership is not purely Fiat.

My wife has owned her current car, a Fiat 500 diesel, from new and it will be two years old in January. Our Fiats have always given us great service and I can't really fault them. Havind said that, the 500 does have an irritating problem which I've posted a query about in the technical section, but it is only minor and according to the dealer is a 'feature' of these cars - but I will reserve judgement until I've recived feedback.

Pretty sure they dont have a Dump valve... they use a variable vane turbo.

Could be a little blow back I guess (cant recall proper technical term)... surging I think... and if it is surging on lift off that can be bad I think...

Wait for the 500 specialists to pop along. (y)

Thanks Ffoxy. I don't think it's any sort of surge, but then I know almost nothing about turbos. My experience is more with older petrol engines even though I currently have three diesels sat on my driveway!

I see you're a Telford man too.

:) Indeed... been in Telford for 14 years now, up by the Golf course at Great Hay.
Can you describe the rattle you have in more detail so that those that join the Thread later have a bit more to go on?

I'm also by a golf course but the one at Horsehay :)

It's a difficult sound to describe, but if it is genuinly normal for these cars then I expect anyone who has heard it will know. It happens on gerachange as you lift up on the accelerator and it sounds - well sort of rattly :) I don't know how else to describe it really, but it only lasts a second or two. I think it only happens under load, ie I haven't heard it if I just rev it up when stationary.

U sure its from when you lift off the throttle... not when you press the clutch?
