This is what I have learned about the cars so far.
These 16 (although only 13 raced) Abarth 500 were driven in the BSM Centenary Abarth 500 Celebrity Challenge at the 2010 Silverstone Classic event piloted by a bunch of celeb types. (my car 12 drived my Rick Parfit Jr and another chap on Pistonheads has car 15 driven by Neil Primrose)
These cars were built in Turin (as opposed to Poland for the vast majority of of the regular 500s in the UK) and started life as standard showroom specification with the dealer fitted Esseesse upgrade.
Racing Repertoire coordinated the installation of cages extinguishers, tow straps etc etc.
Abarth esseesse performance upgrade kit
(esseesse kit includes; 17” lightweight alloy wheels, cross drilled brake discs, performance pads, up-rated suspension spring set, upgrade ECU, BMC performance air filter)
Abarth Monza exhaust which together with the kit takes the standard cars 135 bhp up to the region of 165 bhp
Abarth Corse seats by Sabelt
Bespoke safety cage by “Custom Cages” in Daventry compliant with MSA Blue Book requirements
4-point Toora Competizione “Safe 4” safety harness
Toora fire extinguisher to “AFFF” standard.
The race the cars participated in was the “Abarth 500 Celebrity Challenge” held as part of the 2010 Silverstone Classic and in aid of the Bobby Moore Fund for research into bowel cancer.
The cars were auctioned off for the charity afterwards and made a significant sum for their great work.
Mine was bought and owned by the owners of Donnington for a year.
I'd always fancied an Abarth 500 after seeing the lap time it put down on TopGear; when this one resurfaced for sale I just had to have it and I honestly can't see any reason I'd ever get rid of him.
