Dear all

I would like to say hello to all on the forum, my wife and I have bought a Grande Punto 1.9 Sporting and have a few questions regarding the car. I would be grateful if anyone can help:

The turbo boost doesn't appear to 'cut in' when accelerating in first gear. There is no feeling of the turbo working at all in first gear, but in second onwards, it does cut in from 200rpm onwards. Is this the way Fiat has designed this engine, to limit boost thus wear on the engine, or should we be worried?

Secondly, please could someone tell us, what the lettering MAR and AVV on the ignition surround mean.

Also it say Italy on the ignition surround, which is the last lettering on it. Is this an indication the car was indeed made in Italy?

Many thanks in advance. Peter.

Boost will not 'kick in' until 1800 rpm
Hi TJet180

Many thanks for your reply. Do you find that the turbo boost in first gear isn't as strong, as in other gears? I've only been in first gear a few times, so far (as bought from Fiat dealer yesterday), but from what I recall and I will drive it today, there is not that much of a boost cutting in feeling in first gear...?

To be honest i dont use first much im in 2nd straight away , but there certainly should be something there, maybe you just need to get used to the car, is it your first turbo deisel

TJet180, many thanks again, well I've tried it again this morning and I can feel some boost around 3000rpm onwards, if I 'squeeze' the accelerator abit more. The throttle action is very different to the 'hair tigger' action in our old Seat Ibiza Cupra! It's a lot more progressive in the Fiat.

I also suspect the previous 1 owner, drove like Miss Daisy, because the car is so straight and tight, it feels new.
I don't know if this is possible, but if a car is driven very lightly, can it be that the engine lays dormant without good use?
IE: now I'am using the rev range, is the engine just waking up to it's true potential? Sounds crazy I know but just a theory. Could it be true?

All i can think of is if you have a dpf and its hasnt regenerated properly from light use from previous owner other than that egr valve may be sticking, but you say all the other gears are fine?
Hi again. Yes, it's my first Turbo diesel car and it certainly different to other cars I have driven, but in a good way!

Could I ask, what is a dpf? Yes, the turbo most certainly kicks in in all the other gears, second being particularly strong, but I'am taking it easy because I don't want to thrash the thing, so haven't tried full boost in all gears yet. Also I hear it's best to avoid flooring it in sixth gear, as that can damage the box!? Thanks again.

btw my title name, its my wifes idea!:yuck:
