Hi guys ,last week i swapped a 02 transit for a 03 silver Multipla 1.9 turbo elx jtd

there are a couple of issues i was aware of when we did the deal as there where with the van .The main ones are a oil leak which appears to be coming from somewhere behind the crank pulley at the bottom of the engine or from behind the cam belt cover .

The second issue is when it is ticking over it is very noisy and the noise(rattly noise) seems to be coming from the pulley area

so if any of you guys have any ideas they will be much appreciated .

The car in general is fine ,plenty of power in the engine and everything works ,the body is in good shape apart from needing a new rear bumper it is clean and tidy .

cheers Martyh

Check that the pulley isn't separating into two halves, in common with a lot of mfrs Fiat use a split pulley joined by a rubbery compound. This can delaminate and in worst case scenario throw the belt.
The other known point of failure is the water pump, plastic impeller has been known to shear and again in worst case, jam and throw belt.
If you don't know when the cam belt was last changed, it's probably worth doing and replacing the waterpump at the same time, this will also give you the opportunity to check the crank seal.

Cheers momoe ,i,ve already looked at the pulley and it seems fine i can't see any deteriation in the rubber compound

I have pulled back the cam belt cover a little and can see oily gunk in the top half so this leads me to think that the leak is the crank seal ,would this be an expensive job for a garage or is it something i could do ,i know that cam belts can be a bit tricky

Cam belt is pretty straightforward, but you'll need some RIBES bits, these are like TORX bits but not interchangeable.

Take a look at www.multiplaowners.co.uk - Go to stuff and there's a Doc on how to do a cam belt change.

Cheers mate ,i am convinced it's the crank seal removed a couple of the bolts and pulled it back , and there is lots of oil behind it so i will get that sorted

hi i need to change some seals around my injectors ,i have a puddle of diesel around each injector .I have searched on line but cannot find anywhere that sells them or i am not searching the right sites ,so if anyone has a useful link to a site that can supply such items i would be grateful ,i have a 1.9 115 ELX JTD

thanks Martyh

I gave you the dimensions of the copper seals in another thread.
Find a diesel specialist nearby... They will have them for a quid a pop.
Marty.
