Hi guys,

couple of weeks ago i bought some stuff off UltraLEDs.com, which i highly recommend for price and service.

i bought some LED side indicators to put in the front of my cinq sporting, to finnaly get rid of the dreaded 'fried egg' effect.

i fitted them, but no joy, just nuthing, no light, and of course with this, the other indicators for that side flashed faster.

the bulbs do work as i tried them at work on a variable DC P/S, they will glow lightly at 6V, they are also a snug fit, as its same size base.

i know/think the ECU does a 'flash' test and if its not the correct resistance it turns off that particular bulb, the question is, how do i get around this?

anyone experienced this before??

i've seen the 'fixes' on ultraleds.com, the relay, which means i will have to buy another pair (expensive at £7 each + postage) on top of the relay itself

or the 'Hot load resistors', still over £7 each, and im not sure if you will need one per car, or one per bulb, probably the latter

i was thinking of putting a cheap resistor across this sensing cable to enable the power to it again but anyone know which cable this is?

any feedback will be most appreciated,

cheers,

AxelEph......or Alex if you ever meet me in person

you need t put a resistor in line to fool it into thinking it has got a normal bulb in it. Costs pennies. You can get it from UltraLeds, have seen them on there.

EDIT: will stop them flashing fast aswell!

Hope that helps,
Alan

it's a cinq, not a modern BMW. the ECU cares not what the indicators do. It can't turn off a bulb.

Sounds like you've ordered the wrong bulbs, you can get normal and offset indicator bulbs. I think the cinq uses offset. Compare the bulbs you took out to the LEDs, look at the connectors - i bet they're slightly different.

you will still need to load resistors to get them to flash at the correct rate.

I would have bought crystal bulbs rather then LED's if you want rid of fried egg effect

Had this type of problem before on the misses 206, i swaped the 2 wires around, try it by using some old speaker wire and just touch the wires to the indicators the oppesite way to the way they should be fitted, you should find this will work.
Then its up to you if you want to go cutting your cars wires or just adding a little extra wire from the car plug?

i think Crayon has the best idea, i will try later on, cheers mate.

...i like LED's, they last longer and are much brighter

wi'll let you know how it pans out, but i think that sounds most likely

got it sorted,

the above was correct and the +ve and -ve are backward to 'standard' or at least the bulb, so swapped them over and now work a treat, much better... no egg effect, and they do not dim in between flashes like normal bulbs do.

they ARE still flashing fast, which i knew would happen

so does anyone know what resistor should go parallel to the bulb?
whats the resistance of a normal bulb??

any help would be great :)

Measure the resistance of the original bulb filament. Best to get the resistors with aluminium heatsink suround with mounting holes in it. 15/25 Watt?

Something like this?

my car has 6 of these fitted on the indicators lol (y)slows the flshing down on the LEDS only bulbs i have in my car are the headlights and the indicator icon on the instrument panel as if you put an led there itll only light up when indicating one way :) but a buld sorts that lol

I am just about to get 2 led indicator bulbs for the rear of the car (aswell as rear/brake bulbs) i imagine i'm going to have this problem, couldn't i just change the flasher unit for one that flashes slower... or a relay?

you CAN change the relay/flasher unit, but the only ones i saw meant you had to replace the 4 corner indicators, or it wouldn't work, and probably blow something.

seeing as i only was using the front 2 for LED, i opted for the resistor option instead. dont get from ultraLED's by the way, usually they are cheap on LEDs but their resistor kit was **** loads too expensive, you can buy a resistor from pennies from a electrical component retailer like RS (rswww.com) or CPC (cpconline.com).

but if your going to do all 4 then i would have gone for the relay...if it fits that is.

REMERMBER! - the polarity of the bulbs is backward on the front..imagine the same for the back so be sure to check that first if the bulbs dont appear to work.....will involve cutting and re-joing the cables. Or in the front they are spade terminals so u can just swap them over.

hope this helps,

Alex
