Just took ownership of an 04 Idea, needs some paint chips repairing and some bits inside (new speaker grill and stereo). The only issue I have is an error which appeared on the screen. Something like platform light error? It only appeared the once when I turned it over from cold. Anyone have an clue?

I think that platform error, could be a bulb out on your rear number plate?

Easy to check, maybe just a bad connection.

Ian

Thanks, I'll check that out. I walked around the car with the lights, hazards and breaks on and checked. But I must admit I didn't check the reg lights.

Well I've swapped to my old Sony head unit. Which has wiring for the lack of switched power. My Clarion Bluetooth, unit won't work.

Went to Buxton today, and on the way back from shopping spotted an identical Red Idea in the same car park!

Going to call for quotes on a Cambelt change tomorrow, as the car hasn't any service record for one.

Hi Hokum, Farnbo:ROFLMAO:yer is right the message is plate light error. Mine comes on now and then but both lights are lit. I think it comes up occaisionally when I start the engine with my sidelights on. Hope this helps.

Couldn't figure why that icon came up in farnbor oflyers name, then i hovered over it and it's r. o. f. l .(roll on floor laughing)
Sorry

Thanks for the reply. I'll prod the lights a bit and see what happens. It's been fine since.

Ours had always flagged up the occasional bulb problem on the drivers side brakelight. Usually on the motorway at 80ish so I thought it was vibration based. I changed the bulb and it was good for a while and then blew, in about 6 weeks. Have put another in, checked all the contacts, earths etc and has been fine since. 300miles at 80plus today and not a murmur. They seem sensitive to specific bulb resistance, maybe as the bulb age. Atleast not the body computer problem or wiring issue I was expecting.

Everything is going ok atm, the cambelt has been changed and I had a new clutch too as it was slipping a little. I can recommend Richard Corts near Bury very courteous and didn't mind my 2yo running about and playing with things.

Out of interest, I can't seem to get the child locks to engage? I put the key in the white "switch" and rotate it till it its at 90 degrees but when you close the door it still opens from the inside?

I believe the white switch for the key is the one that deactivates the passenger side airbag. That won't help you with the child locks in the doors.

I think you'll find what you're looking for when you open the rear doors. Look just above or below the latch on the door for a small (usually gold colored) sliding switch and you've found it. Slide it to the other end of its travel and then have a go. It that does in fact work, do the other one the same way.

Found the issue I was looking at the wrong bits, the white ones are for the central locking, the ones for the child locks are on the inside of the door below the door locks.
