Hi guys have come across this site last week after purchasing my first car and find you guys helpfull

BUT!! i have an issue with me 51plate ELX 1.9 Disel punto

It passed it's MOT last thursday and has recently had new battery installed and all has been awesome however i tried to start the engine earlier and nothing. just a clicking noise.

Jump started it from a mate supra and it worked lovely gave it a run back home (10min drive) and now it won't even jump start.

The jump cables are extremely hot and think it may have drainned the other car's battery a bit??

Is thisthe alternator? and if so wtf has it gone if it passed MOT a week ago

Very upset, confussed and a bit angry..

Any help please?

alternator not part of MOT test

(MOT test is about safety/emissions)

MOT says the car is SAFE to drive on the road at the exact time of inspection, anything could go after that, they wouldnt check the battery on an MOT..

you say it wont jump start, it just clicks? Does the clock reset when it clicks? also, put a cd or the radio on, does that go off?

if not it might be worth checking the starter motor

Sounds either like the alternator or a dud battery. Get it tested at a local garage, they will be able to tell you whether it is the battery (if so take i back) or the alternator.

The MOT dosent test the battery/alternator so any probs with them wouldnt of been identified

Chees, sorry to sound stupid but where and what am i looking for here? new driver here u see lol, still clueless.

I havent had the best of luck with cars, day 4 of passing my th head gasket blew on my gf's fiesta now day 14 this happens

Might get a push bike haha

look at the black cable going to the battery, look at where it is connected to the car. Does anything look dodgy?

turns out this new battery was put in my RAC and is only good for a 1.2 petrol.

new battery in there and all is well.

I'm running a diesel battery on mine at, even though it's a 1.2 petrol.
