Hi, i was by the side of the road in a lay-by with my blue neons on. The police issued me with a mark against my car and a £30 fine as there was blue showing from the rear of the car. I was under the impression it was only illegal to have neons on while the car is moving, could anyone help here? This copper pulled me over 4 times in the same night, looking for an excuse to book me grrr!!!

Neons are for show use only.
So the legality of the on a car, moving or not, is very much a grey area.

The mark against your car will do your nut in. After i had one, i was getting pulled every time a cop was behind me. (n)

Any light that distracts other drivers is illegal plus any blue light is illegal unless it is an emergency vehicle.

If they can see the tube they can fine you. If they can only see the glow on the floor from the tubes then its ok.

I found these undercar lighting systems based on high intensity LED's. They are slimline and i'm sure you could fit these on just about any car without them being directly visible.

PS. My theory has always been if your gonna get undercar lighting, don't get blue (i mean it is my fave colour too but your just asking for trouble with police).

If you were stationary with your handbrake on he can't do bugger all. Especially in a lay by as your not on the public road. Go to your local pig farm and appeal against it. Tell them you are prepared to take it further if they don't remove the mark and the fine. Was the pig on his own or with another piglett. Were you on your own? If you were with a mate and he was on his own just tell them you want to make a complaint against him and his attitude

lay by's still count as a public highway, so do the majority of car parks now adays.

you cant have any blue neons, with tube showing or not.

flashing neons are a big no no to

what about UV lighting? mine are impossable to see unless someone wearing white cotton laces steps in then its a lush colour.

just wondered? what about glowing peddles etc? i was gonig to pu somthing that would react with the UV light on my peddles and the mats maybe.

Cheers,

The normal rules are that if a carpark/lay-by etc. is marked as if a road and publically accessible, it's a part of the highway.

It's illegal to show any colour other than red to the rear of a car with the exception of amber for indicators and white for reverse. AFAIK.

neons are chavy anyways lol :) the copper should of hit them and said you have a light out there mate ;)
seriously you should put this in LL so that turboned sees it and tehn he can give you 100% true info
