I have an issue with my car that I would greatly appreciate any advice and/or suggestions. I have read and utilised some of the guides on this site but I cannot find any guide to my problem.
My car, Fiat Punto Grande 2006 1.3 diesel 90hp multijet 52300kms on the clock . Fantasic car and very nice to drive over the years.
After getting 2 new tyres on the front, a bearing noise started sounding in the front right side in the engine bay. I located the noise coming from what I believe the tensioner bearing located after the alternator.
Can the bearing be replaced on the existing unit or do I have to buy a new tensioner? Can you replace the bearing or is it encased inside?
I have felt and looked in the mirror at the tensioner. The bearing bolt seems to be 15mm or 16mm head. The tensioner looks like a torque screw head? Am I right in assuming it is and torque head? Maybe something like T8? Or is it a special head?
From what I can find on the internet about other tensioners- To remove it, first you must loosen the tensioner bearing by anti-clockwise direction. This will loosen the belt and then loosen the torque head to remove the unit? Am I right in assuming this or is there another way of removing the unit.
I was thinking of replacing the belt if I could remove and replace the tensioner bearing. Would it be wise to replace any other bearings located on this belt? The car has only done 53000kms. Would this belt be due to be changed at the 60 000 km service?
I am looking at attempting to solve this issue without costing me an arm and a leg because I know it is only a simple bearing but could be very costly. …
