Need advice after an M.O.T. failure

Hi,
I had my car for the M.O.T. today and after failing on daft things like o.s.f. headlight being too low it failed on the emissions.
It's going back tomorrow to have them tested again but this time running on the gas. (didn't know this was allowed but the tester suggested it).
Anyway here is the results of the emissions test does anyone understand these things?
Engine oil temperature: min 80.0*c actual value 81.4*c OK

fast idle test
engine speed: 2500-2900 rpm 2617 rpm pass
co:

Unlikely they damaged the lambda, its infront of the cat and designed to run fooking hot. They are quite tough.

The not starting indicates a problem.

When were the plugs, airfilter and plugleads last changed?

Re: Re: Need advice after an M.O.T. failure

About 1500 miles ago but i've not changed the leads yet.
Would the leads alone cause it not to start when hot?

i know

hi mate i know what you mean did u fit a cosmetic or performance exhaust if you did then that is the problem it happend to me so i had to buy a new standerd exhaust system £60 and get it swpt after the mot i put the cosmetic exhuast good luck welcome to the world of modding

Re: Re: Re: Need advice after an M.O.T. failure

Yes, if its got a weak spark it won't start.

Either that or the temp sender has gone causing it to try and cold start.
Temp sender is £7, leads are £50.

Re: i know

Kam i had to get a standard exhaust fitted quick for the M.O.T. after some wa***r wouldn't fit my stainless backbox cos he didn't want to work on a car with a gas tank.
Tom i'll change the leads and get a temp sensor (from Fiat?)
Would this cause the fault on the emissions or should i replace the lambda too.?

Re: Re: i know

No, as you said its not starting when hot I suspect a fault with something other than the lambda.

If the lambda was at fault I would expect it to fail alot worse.

Temp sender for ECU is in yellow, take battery out, unbolt ECU mounting from the battery tray and lift it out of the way.

Re: Re: Re: i know

Will do Tom thanks
What are the blue and red rings?

Re: Re: Re: Re: i know

Red - fookin hard to get to hose clip
blue - dash temp sender

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: i know

lol.
Cheers Tom i'll get a temp sensor tomorrow and some leads and let you know how it goes.
Thanks again.

Would resetting the ECU do anything?

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: i know

had the same prob on the g/f's 106. was a faulty temp sensor, replacing it fixed it for a while. Now it occasionally won't start hot, randomly revs itself without the throttle being touched and has cut out once whilst driving! Grrr

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: i know

Daz, probably not as it would default to existing values which are usually too rich.

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: i know

My mate has a HGT and when changing the thermostat we dislodged the temp sensor without realising it, paint o get off. Anyway from then on the car would start fine when cold but once warm and you switched it off would not start or really really struggle to and fuel economy went through the floor and emissions throught he roof! popped it on the FIAT diagnostics and sure enough it said it was b*ll*xed! cost 4 quid, worth a go!
