Need 2nd hand gearbox

Last night an amazing thing happened I heard a large crunch and the Bravo would no longer move.
Oh dear I thinks to my self. Well such is life a new clutch is 150 quid no big deal. Gaz @ Gordon's had the car up on the ramps this morning and reported back to me.

The damage.................

My 2-year-old bravo has just dropped the diff and punched a hole through the gearbox. So I'm going to need a new gearbox.

OMG!!!!

So I have a few questions.

1) Could some one just confirm for me that the Fiat Bravo 1.6 16v has only ever been used in the Bravo and wasn't used in any other fiat/lancia or Alfa. i.e its a new gen of engine.

2) I'm not sure of the model but dose the Alfa version of the bravo. (155 i think?) use the same bottom end as the Bravo?

Basically what I'm getting at is. I'm gonna have to replace the gearbox and dose any one know if I could use another gearbox form another car with lower ratios?

If anyone is scrapping a car or knows some one who is please let me know as I'll be after your gearbox. 1.6 Bravo/Bravo.

Bad luck Rob - bust g/box after 2 years, hmmm wonder why that would have happened

Anyway, the box on the Bravo was only used in the Brava in the Fiat range however not 100% sure if it is in the Stilo.

You will also be lucky to find a 1.6 Alfa 155 in the UK, whilst they did one - even a 1.4 as well I think they only imported the 1.8, 2.0 and 2.5 litre models.

I checked the 1.8 Bravo box as well and that is a different part.

As for any Lancia' fitments.....were any imported after 1992 - or more importantly were there any left after Winter 1992!

I should have mentioned that.

I have only actually used one full bottle of nitrous plus the gearbox should be good for 155 bhp as its the same gearbox as the hgt

Mine also went after about 3 years, mines a 1.4, exactly same problem as yours, too much thrashing me thinks !!!

mine too!

the diff pin smashed a whole outta mine last summer, on about 75 thousand miles! smashed out throught the speedo sensor at the top, mine still drove though, but only onto the tow truck! lol, didnt wanna drive with no oil in my gearbox!

cost me about 450 for my recon box to be found n fitted!

450! bloody hell.

I've been quoted 175 for a new box so far.

Its sat at gordons waiting for the new box and clutch to be serviced and a 4 Pirellis to be fitted. Gaz is gonna do all that for the price of the service and a new clutch. (both tyre and gearbox bought seperatley) Just goes to show how lucky I am that one of my best mates is a manager/mechanic

The stilo has a new design of gearbox made by Getrag. It is much better than the fiatboxes of old, which have always been a bit of an issue.....
Your fiat dealer should be able to tell you which boxes fit, as the parts cd tells them the other cars that use it...

throwing diff's

Thats funny as my Marea threw a dif' pin through the casing right where the speedo picks up and it still drove. Maybe theres a common fault with the g/box, mine had only done 27k tho. ???????????????

Guys did any of you lot notice before your difs went that your speedo went crazy for a few minutes before it totaly died?

If they did then that obviously a bit of an early warning sign for the dif? I wonder where the speedo sensor is?

Yeah!

yeah, well, it started working intermittantly for about a week before!


the speedo sensor is on top of the gearbox, it is quite clear in the old haynes manual where it is from memory?

I had read this before on age old posts about breaking sensor drives.

I am going to put this a warning on the guide and as soon as I have stopped uploading the latest gallery I will sort a pic fo the sensor for you
