Hi Folks
You only get to see me with a fault ......

Any suggestions please would be most welcome. This is my daughter's car, she only ever gets to hear this noise if the car hasn't moved for a few days, but it only lasts for a minute or so at the most. I haven't even managed to get a look of the car, but she sent me this video ...... (y)

and then she needs the exhaust's flexi sorting :(

Sounds drivebelty....my guess would be alternator belt too tight or the bearings in either that or the water pump being worn, kinda siezing after a few days then loosening off after a little bit running.

Thanks.I was thinking along the same lines.

As this car is a later 1100 Seicento can I assume that the water pump is pretty much the same as the one in the guide?

Yup, i "think" it's even the same pump parts number wise, but from a job point of view, it's absolutely identical on all the 1108's and 1242 8v conversions regardless.

Good opportunity to replace the timing belt and tensioner etc, could also be the tensioner whining so may as well do both while it's all off anyway, especially if there;s no record of when it was all replaced

It looks pretty straight forward. :D
As you suggest, no record at all of cam belt change etc so will look at doing one ...... No1 daughter will be pleased

Would place my bet on alternator, cambelt tension or water pump, take the aux belt off (adjusts on the alternator) 2 or 3 16mm bolts hold it in place then retry, you'll have a charging light on the dash but should indicate if that's where the problem lies. Also check when the cambelt was last done,as I had a very similar noise on my car (whining when cold then would fade away) which ended up being my cambelt tensioner bearing) report back and let us know :)
